If the stages in the relationships with Divinity--conviviality, rape, or indifference--occur it is because they only seek to selfishly satisfy their own whims, even in indifference.
Agamemnon sacrifices Iphigenia and Polyxena (whose type of brutal death is common with the gods); Achilles rapes the lifeless body of Penthesilea; and eventually Zeus rapes Nemesis, but he barked up the wrong tree and so begins the Trojan War.
In the course of modern society, there are tales of man finding their nemesis. Does anyone remember Lorena Bobbitt? John Bobbitt wasn't a divine god like Zeus. When John came home one night in a drunken stupor, he sexually assaults Lorena. After good 'ol John falls asleep or passes out, Lorena quietly goes to the kitchen, grabs a knife and chops off his penis!!
John had indeed met his nemesis.
Indifference. That's what has changed today from the world of the gods. There are no illusions about what is right or wrong anymore (at least for the most part!)--killing or rescuing a life; loving or be wanton; giving or stealing. We aren't indifferent--we are human.
